Students may apply to be Hagedorn Fellows upon acceptance to Hofstra University for the Master of Science in education, teacher training programs that lead to initial certification.
Graduate students will receive up to $10,000 in loans. Loans would be applied in two installments. The first installment would be disbursed upon enrollment; the second installment after a student had earned 15 credits.
After graduation, students will receive loan forgiveness equaling one installment of the loan for each year of service in an approved high-needs school district. As such, the loan would be forgiven after two years of service in a high-needs district.
If a student withdraws from the School of Education or decides not to teach in a high-needs school district, interest is applied to the loan and it is due upon graduation or withdrawal from Hofstra University.
