Chair’s Welcome

Greetings and welcome to the Finance Department.

As the Chairperson of the department, I have the distinct pleasure of introducing you to the various programs and activities in the Finance Department. Through these webpages and links, you will recognize a dynamic, dedicated and diverse group of faculty and students at Hofstra who are preparing to meet the challenges of a continuously evolving finance field. Finance is often described as an analytical field of study. Yet, having an analytical mind is not the only way to succeed in finance. An imaginative and creative sense of what moves the markets, drives the values of financial and other assets, and keeps a firm financially sound is also a valuable skill.

The mission of the Department of Finance is to impart the applied and conceptual skills required to meet the challenges created by the dynamic changes occurring in the financial marketplace by providing a quality educational experience in an environment that emphasizes excellence in teaching and scholarship and fosters a spirit of fellowship between students and faculty.

Many of our classes and events are held in the Martin B. Greenberg Trading Room, which houses several state-of-the-art databases and technologies, including 34 Bloomberg Professional Terminals. All of our courses, programs and co-curricular activities are geared towards preparing our students to be ready to meet the challenges they would face as they start their professional career.

I invite you to explore the accompanying pages to learn more about the exciting programs we offer, the diverse interests of our faculty, the Trading Room and other technologies we use for instruction, and the challenging activities and competitions that our students participate in as finance and business students.
