Why did you come to the Zarb School?
I was interested in pursuing a career in accounting, and the Zarb School of Business has a great reputation for its MBA/MS programs.
Internship Experience:
The Graduate Business Career Services office has held many networking events throughout my time at Zarb, one of which included an informational session involving the public accounting firm, Crowe Horwath. Representatives from the firm gave a presentation and spoke with students individually about the opportunities they offered. Subsequently, the firm came to the Accounting Career Fair at Hofstra. I applied for the summer tax internship, had two rounds of interviews, an office visit, and was ultimately offered the position.
Work Experience:
My overall experience as a tax intern at Crowe Horwath has been great. I have learned so much about the accounting field, especially within tax, and have met many incredible people. The partners, managers, and staff care very much about their work and have expressed a sincere interest in contributing to my success throughout the program. I have been given many projects to complete and each has increased my knowledge tremendously. My proudest moment was when I correctly filled out a tax return that required no corrections upon review by my performance manager.
How did the Zarb School prepare you for your career?
In addition to the accounting and business curriculum I learned during my MBA classes, the career services office provided practical resources that proved very valuable during the application and interview process. The résumé critiques, mock interviews, networking events and workshops were among the many opportunities that career services offered to help prepare me for my professional career which has certainly paid off.
What is your favorite memory/experience at the Zarb School?
My favorite experiences at Zarb have involved learning about the cultures of my diverse classmates, including the many similarities and differences of various global business practices.
What advice do you have for students who want to follow in your footsteps?
Take full advantage of career services and attend every workshop they offer. You will learn very important information and be prepared when applying and interviewing for internships and full-time positions. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for the valuable coaching I received.
