Welcome to Student Counseling Services
The mission of Student Counseling Services is to provide quality mental health interventions that enhance wellbeing and offer students a more meaningful and successful college experience. Collaborative partnerships are developed to assist students in making essential connections within the Division of Student Affairs and greater university community. Individual and group counseling is available to students who are having difficulty with emotional, behavioral, academic, or adjustment concerns. The collaborative counseling process is used to clarify problems, establish realistic goals and develop active, short-term treatment solutions.
All services are provided in a confidential and professional atmosphere. Student Counseling Services takes every reasonable precaution to protect the privacy of clients. The identity of those using our services, along with personally identifiable disclosures made in the course of the counseling relationship, is regarded as confidential. Information is not shared with parties outside Student Counseling Services without the expressed written consent of the client, or where law, regulations or emergency situations require it.
The staff at Student Counseling Services is committed to the affirmation of diversity in all of our endeavors. We recognize that differing ethnicities, cultures, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, religious affiliations, ages, genders and abilities are important aspects of students' identities. Student Counseling Services appreciates the full range of diversity within the Hofstra community and we are committed to creating an environment of acceptance, respect and sensitivity for all Hofstra students.

Beginning in August 2018, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. is no longer able to offer the voluntary domestic health insurance plan to Hofstra University domestic undergraduate students. This will in no way impact a student’s ability to utilize services provided on campus at the Student Health and Counseling Center. Services offered to enrolled students are generally free or very low cost regardless of insurance coverage.
Domestic undergraduate students who would like to purchase insurance coverage can go to the federal insurance exchangeat www.healthcare.gov to find available health plans in the state where they permanently reside. If the permanent residence is outside of New York, it will be important to select a PPO plan that offers coverage throughout the United States, so that health care expenses are covered in the area near our university. Currently enrolled students will receive more detailed information directly from Gallagher Student Health.
International students, who are required to have health insurance, should visit the International Student Affairs Health and Accident Insurance website. Medical school students can visit the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Student Health Insurance website.
