Bio

Dr. Daisy Miller is an Associate Professor of Writing Studies and Rhetoric. Before coming to Hofstra in 2005, she was a civilian professor at the United States Military Academy. Her teaching and publications focus on students' professional identity, metacognition, nostalgia, satiric news, and the rhetoric of apostasy. She has been honored by the Communal Studies Association for her work on the Shakers. She enjoys teaching writing within the First Year Connections (FYC) program, particularly with the cluster "Democracy, Politics and Policy: What's Fair in the United States?"


Teaching Interests

Writing across the curriculum. Students situated identity within their writing. How writing assists students in the sciences. Introducing students to the writings and field of Writing Studies.

Research Interests

Understanding the professional investment students might have in their writing. Rhetorical interruptions in established narrative formulations. Writing in the sciences.
