Bio

Born in Tashkent Uzbekistan. 1976-77 Tashkent University. 1977-82 Moscow University, with MA equivalents in Archaeology and in Historical Source Studies. 1983-1991 - Research Associate and then the Curator of Central Asian Art, Museum of Oriental Art, Moscow. 1992-1997 - Librarian at the Research Institute for Inner Asian Studies, Instructor, and Graduate Student at Indiana University, Bloomington - 1997-99 - Horstman Fellow at the Eurasian Abteilung, German Archaeological Institute, Berlin. 1999-present Hofstra University (Instructor, Assistant, Associate and Full Professor at Hofstra University. Four times Shama Fellowship recipient at Oxford University, UK.

Ancient Near Eastern, Islamic, Silk Road art and archaeology

Research Interests

Art, Archaeology, Numismatics, and History of pre-Islamic and early Islamic Central Asia
