Dr. Pugliese is a Professor of modern European history and the Queensboro UNICO Distinguished Professor of Italian and Italian-American Studies. He also serves as a Fellow of the Hofstra Cultural Center. His research interests cover a wide spectrum of topics related to Italian history, including the study of modern Italy, Italian fascism and anti-fascism, the Holocaust, Italian-American history and culture, and Italian Jews. He is the author, editor or translator of fifteen books; at Hofstra he has been director or co-director conferences on Primo Levi, Italian Studies, Naples, Soccer and Frank Sinatra. With Brenda Elsey, he is co-editor of "Football and the Boundaries of History: Critical Studies on Soccer." With William J. Connell, he is co-editor of "The Routledge History of Italian Americans." With Pellegrino D'Acierno he is co-editor of "Delirious Naples: A Cultural History of the City of the Sun." He is currently working on a new book, Dancing on a Volcano in Naples: Scenes From the Siren City.
