Bio
Professor Vogel graduated from Widener University with a B.S. in civil engineering and later achieved his Professional Engineer's License from the State University of N.Y. He earned a J.D. with honors from the St. John's University School of Law where he was a member of the Law Review and a contributor to the New York State Environmental Lawyer periodical. He is admitted to practice law in New York State and the federal Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Professor Vogel has had numerous articles published in prestigious law reviews and well-known practitioner's journals in the areas of constitutional law, taxation, ethics, environmental law, litigation practice & skills, evidentiary rules, securities law, and pedagogy. Other legal scholars and courts around the country have cited to his work. As a presenter, he has won the Best Paper Award twice (2011 and 2013) and has presented his scholarship at more than a dozen professional/academic conferences for organizations such as the Constitutional Scholars, the American Bar Association, the National Business and Economics Society, the North East Academy of Legal Studies in Business and the Northeast Decision Sciences Institute.
At Hofstra, Professor Vogel teaches several undergraduate courses and also teaches in the full-time day honors MBA program and in the fully on-line MBA program. Occasionally, Professor Vogel also teaches as an adjunct or special professor of law at the Hofstra Law School on the subjects of Litigation Skills and Appellate Advocacy. Professor Vogel is also the current academic advisor to the Legal Studies Club and in 2013 he was selected as the Zarb School of Business “Teacher of the Year”. In 2015 he received the Best Teacher Award from the on-line MBA program and in 2015 he was recognized by Beta Alpha Psi for “Outstanding Service.” Prior to teaching at Hofstra, Professor Vogel was an adjunct at several local colleges and was the full-time Director of Litigation Education for Nixon Peabody, a large international law firm with over 700 attorneys throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. As the Director of Litigation Education, Prof. Vogel developed and managed curriculum for associates and partners, supervised the instruction of attorney continuing education programs, and worked on the development of a new system for evaluating associate performance. Prior to his role as Director of Litigation Education, Professor Vogel practiced commercial litigation as an associate at Nixon Peabody for almost eight years. Prior to obtaining his law degree, Professor Vogel worked for almost a decade for two private engineering firms and the City of New York in the area of environmental construction.
Professor Vogel is also an author of an early reader chapter book for kids titled: The Adventure Guys in the Chinese Bear-Cat Rescue and has made author appearances at various elementary schools across Long Island. He is also the creator and owner of his own company - Junior JDs - and is the presenter of a mock-trial program called the Trial of Goldilocks and a forensic science program called Humpty Dumpty was Pushed that have been the subject of articles in Newsday, and the Long Island Business News, stories on News 12 Long Island and TV55. To date, more than 50,000 schoolchildren across Nassau and Suffolk Counties have participated in these programs.
