Jacqueline A. Burke

Dr. Jacqueline A. Burke earned a Ph.D. from New York University and has an M.B.A. and B.B.A. degree, both in accounting, from Hofstra University.  She is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York. 

Dr. Burke has published in various journals such as Advances in Public Interest AccountingThe CPA Journal, and the Journal of Portfolio Management.  She is also a coauthor of Product Costing: Concepts and Applications, second and third editions, published by McGraw-Hill.  Dr. Burke is a recipient of the national Delta Pi Epsilon Independent Research Award for her article titled "Collaborative Accounting Problem Solving Via Group Support Systems in a Face-to-Face Versus Distant Learning Environment" that was published in the Information Technology, Learning, and Performance Journal.  She has also served as a reviewer for various journals, accounting textbooks, and professional organizations. 

Dr. Burke has a combination of public and managerial accounting experience, with a primary focus in managerial accounting.  Prior to coming to Hofstra, Dr. Burke formulated and implemented the accounting system for a newly acquired subsidiary of Graham Holdings (formerly The Washington Post),a Fortune 500 company.  As part of her responsibilities, Dr. Burke redesigned the accounting system and control functions of the acquired subsidiary to integrate with those of the parent company. Additionally, she worked as an accountant in the medical, textile and restaurant industries, and has provided consulting services to a startup medical device manufacturing company.  Dr. Burke served as Treasurer for the Hofstra Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, where she redesigned the internal controls of the Chapter.  Dr. Burke also served as a member of the Long Island Board of Directors of the Institute of Management Accountants (I.M.A.).
