Director of the ESL Curriculum

Dr. Hanaa Wahba is the Director of the ESL Curriculum in the Department of Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. She developed a new ESL Curriculum at Hofstra University in summer 2018. She is also a Program Manager at INTO Hofstra University. She has a rich experience teaching diverse students in university settings in the United States, and she is so passionate about teaching and working with international students. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor who was born in Egypt and lives in New York for over 25 years. She has a rich experience teaching ESL courses at Hofstra University and other universities in the U.S. Her doctoral research is about the effects of constructivist learning environment and learning styles on international college students' academic and social outcomes in U.S. colleges and universities. She is dual certified as she holds New York State teaching certifications in TESOL (K-12 grades) and Childhood Education (1-6 grades).

She uses project-based learning which is an engaging and effective teaching method that motivates English language learners to develop deep knowledge about the content. She incorporates a lot of in-class projects that examine real-world problems for novice, intermediate, and advanced levels to help international students enjoy learning and improve their proficiency in English. She likes to inspire her students, motivate them, and encourage them to share their diverse viewpoints in class. She also likes to inspire faculty and encourage them to create constructivist learning environments to help their students be active participants in their classes. She has a rich experience teaching foundation of education courses to undergraduate students in the School of Education at Queens College.

She is passionate about internationalization, and she puts efforts to make significant progress in expanding internationalization among the college community and encourage faculty from all disciplines to internationalize their courses. She believes that curriculum internationalization will increase international students’ global awareness and improve their intercultural learning outcomes.

Like her father, she loves drawing and painting. She believes that art reflects one's own philosophy in life. She participated as an artist in the International Women’s Day in the United Nations in 2018.
