Bio

Dr. Korattyswaroopam received her PhD in Urban Planning and Public Policy from Rutgers University, New Jersey, in 2010.  She has an MCP (Master of City Planning) degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (India) and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Architectural Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (India). She practiced as an architect in India before starting her graduate studies in City Planning and then worked as a lecturer in Architecture before starting her doctoral program at Rutgers.

As part of her doctoral thesis, she conducted research on Public Transportation Systems in developing countries, focusing on Bus Transportation in Indian cities.  She researched the impacts of privatization of urban bus services in India and how privatization can be achieved without compromising the quality of service while providing opportunities for the private operator to make profits.

During her doctoral studies at Rutgers, she also researched urban sprawl in the U.S. , analyzing data to develop a sprawl index and study the impacts of sprawl.
