Kathleen Bakarich

Bio

Dr. Bakarich received her Ph.D. in accounting from Baruch College, The City University of New York (CUNY).  She also earned an MBA degree from Baruch College (CUNY) and a BS in Business Administration (Accounting) from Fairfield University in Connecticut.

After graduating from Fairfield University, Dr. Bakarich spent a year in Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship studying German and international accounting at the Goethe Universitaet Frankfurt am Main. Returning to the U.S., she joined the commercial audit department at RSM in New York City and obtained her CPA license in New York. After working in public accounting, Dr. Bakarich received the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) Accounting Doctoral Scholars award, which allowed her to pursue a career in academia.

Dr. Bakarich’s research has combined her academic and professional experiences and has focused on the intersection of international accounting and auditing. Her dissertation examines the properties of foreign firms’ accounting information and audit fees in the years following their decision to deregister their stock from U.S. exchanges. She has also conducted research on the conformity of financial accounting and tax reporting and its relationship to audit fees and quality in an international setting. Her research has been selected to be presented at various conferences including the American Accounting Association’s (AAA) annual meeting, the AAA International Section midyear meeting, and the INFINITI Conference on International Finance.

Dr. Bakarich is a member of the American Accounting Association, New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Alumni Association’s Greater New York Chapter.
