Category 3 Hurricane Landfall Virtual Reality Simulation

Jase Bernhardt has had a lifelong passion for studying weather and climate, dating to his childhood in Upstate New York. Jase received a B.S. in atmospheric science from Cornell University, where he researched east coast winter storms, and provided weather forecasts for various outlets, including the campus newspaper and school athletic teams.

Jase attended graduate school at Penn State, working in the Department of Geography, with a focus on climatology. He expanded his research interests to include human impacts on climate, historical climatology, and the usage of GIS. Jase's master's thesis dealt with the formation and impacts of jet contrail outbreaks, while his doctoral dissertation analyzed the differences between two temperature averaging methods and related spatial variability. Also while at Penn State, Jase served as a broadcast meteorologist on the Weather World television program, broadcast throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

Jase is excited to join the Department of Geology, Environment and Sustainability, and is developing research and coursework in climatology and meteorology which enhance the existing offerings and faculty expertise. Besides keeping an eye on the sky, Jase is an avid runner and New York Mets fan.
