Bio

Oren Segal has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Criminology from the University of Bar-Ilan, Israel, and an MS and PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML), USA. During his time at UML he was a member of the Mora heterogeneous computing research group and became an adjunct Prof after defending his PhD. During his professional career, mostly outside the halls of the academia, he has accumulated more than fifteen years of experience in research, development and management of software projects in diverse areas such as embedded systems, driver development, compression, high speed communications, automated trading systems, games and multimedia.

Research Interests

My current research interests lie in the area of high-level hardware/software co-design for energy efficient computing through the use of heterogeneous systems and clusters. I am currently looking at ways to improve performance and performance per watt of HPC and Big Data applications through the use of heterogeneous clusters and high level programming.
