Bio

I have been teaching German language and culture at Hofstra University since 2004. My recent dissertation is titled Lothar-Günther Buchheim’s “Das Boot”: Memory and the Nazi Past. My Ph.D. in World History complements my Ed.M. degree in language teaching; my courses enable students to learn German not only as a foreign language, but to see it as a medium in which they learn about the target culture, cultures related to it, and their own.

Research:

My scholarly interest reflects Northern Europe, with a special focus on Germany and Scandinavia. My research languages outside of English are German and Danish. The history and literature of these regions speak for themselves, but the pop culture of these countries over the last few decades provides for a wide variety of discussions and discovery.

Teaching:

Learning a foreign language is a well-researched phenomenon. Ensuring that speakers of American English receive the insight, training, and outcome-based instruction for learning German is key.
