MBA, 2007, Rutgers University

Kate Suslava is completing her Ph.D. in Accounting from Rutgers Business School. She also earned an MBA degree in Accounting and Finance from Rutgers Business School in Newark and BA and MA in Linguistics from Minsk State Linguistic University in Minsk, Belarus.

After obtaining her MBA degree, Kate worked as an auditor for Ernst and Young Real Estate Group for five years. After her Big4 career, she joined the Newspaper Division of Hearst Corporation as an accounting and finance manager.

Ms. Suslava's primary research areas include textual analysis, corporate governance and voluntary disclosures. She has conducted research on the value relevance of order backlog disclosures in the corporate filings. She has also studied characteristics of board members and the effect their tenure has on their functions and on firm value. Currently, she is working on the textual analysis of conference call transcripts: she studies investor reaction to idioms and fixed expressions analysts and managers use during the calls.

Ms. Suslava's research has been selected to be presented at various conferences including European Financial Management Association Annual Meeting, Global Finance Conference, Haskell and White Corporate Reporting and Governance Academic Conference, and Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance Conference.
