Richard C. Jones

Associate Professor of Accounting, Taxation, and Legal Studies in Business

Dr. Jones received his Ph.D. in accounting from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a B.S. in accounting from Drexel University.

Dr. Jones' business experience includes six years as a vice president at Chemical Banking Corporation. In addition for three years he was a member of the staff of the Financial Accounting Standards Board where he specialized in public utility accounting issues. Dr. Jones began his professional career as a staff auditor in the Melville, NY office of Arthur Andersen and Company.

Dr. Jones' research interests include auditing, auditor's decision-making behavior, and international accounting and auditing standard setting.  Dr. Jones has authored or co-authored accounting articles that have appeared in several conference proceedings and accounting journals including the CPA JournalBank Accounting and Finance, and the International Federation of Accountants Quarterly.

Dr. Jones has also coauthored a book (with Dr. Elizabeth Venuti), “Revenue Recognition: International Accounting Standards,” and edited a chapter on international accounting and auditing standards for the Accountants Handbook. Dr. Jones has alsocontributed extensively to publications of the American Institute of CPAs including Audit Risk Alerts, the Audit and Accounting Manual, and the Annual Peer Reviewers' Letter.

Dr. Jones is on the editorial board of the CPA Journal and has acted as an ad-hoc reviewer for that journal as well as several other academic journals including The Journal of Accounting Education, the Journal of International & Interdisciplinary Business Research, the Austin Journal of Accounting, Audit, and Finance, and the Journal of Business Cases.

During his academic career, Dr. Jones has received several citations for excellence in teaching including: the Zarb School of Business Dean’s Outstanding Teacher Award, the Hofstra University 2001 Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award and the 1999 Dominick Marsicovetere Faculty Award for Outstanding Dedication to the Students, presented by the Delta Pi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi.

Other awards and honors received include the KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation Doctoral Scholarship Award and the Rutgers' University Minority Advanced Placement Fellowship.

Dr. Jones is a certified public accountant (PA – nonpracticing) and a member of the New York State Society of CPAs, and the American Accounting Association.
