Bio

Professor Lehman is regarded as a leader and innovator in her field, conducting research and teaching interdisciplinary and critical accounting for over 3 decades. Receiving her PhD from New York University Professor Lehman was instrumental in founding the journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting. For 25 years of outstanding service, Dr. Lehman was inducted into the Interdisciplinary Hall of Fame of the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal in 2016 and in 2017 she received the Hofstra University School of Business Dean’s Research Award. She is recipient of the KPMG Accounting Mentoring Award and has served as chair of the Public Interest Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and of the Gender Issues in Accounting Section of the AAA, a section which she co-founded, and she served as an accounting adviser for the New York State Regents Examination Board. Prior to teaching at Hofstra, Dr. Lehman worked in private industry, performing internal auditing and financial analysis and forecasting.

Dr. Lehman has held positions in Australia and England as a visiting scholar and her research venues include Canada, Cuba, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Peru, Poland, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. She is currently Editor of Advances in Public Interest Accounting, Associate Editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, on the Editorial Board for a dozen journals. Her publications appear in Accounting, Organizations and Society; Accounting, Auditing, and Accountability; Advances in Public Interest Accounting; Critical Perspectives on Accounting and numerous other journals and proceedings. She is the author of Accounting's Changing Role in Social Conflict, which has been translated into Japanese and Korean, and co-editor of Multinational Culture: Social Impacts of a Global Economy.

Dr. Lehman has served on the Board of the distinguished Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR), the Warsaw based Network of East-West Women (NEWW) and the Global Share Resource Foundation (GSRF), organizations committed to advancing social justice and stimulating public dialogue around the globe. Dr. Lehman has a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) and a License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) interning with incarcerated youth and she continues her clinical commitments. Exploring knowledge creation, ethics, global public policy and gender, she remains on the forefront of interdisciplinary research.
