Meet the HofstraCard Staff
Michael Martin, Director for HofstraCard Services
I started working as director for HofstraCard Services in 2012. Prior to employment with Hofstra University, I worked with city and state government for over 20 years, including 12 years as director, technical services, Internal Security Department for MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and 3 years’ work experience as an urban park ranger. I also have 4 years’ experience working as director, Homeland Security/Homeland Defense for the Northrop Grumman Corporation.
My team and I are uniquely positioned to personally meet, greet, and take a picture of every student who attends Hofstra University. We are very proud to be part of the student experience and take pride in managing the students’ security access, Dutch Debit, and meal plan accounts. Go Pride!
I hold a master’s degree from St. John's University in government and politics. I also have a bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in government and public administration.
My wife and I live in Commack, New York, and we have three children, Michael, Michele and Kellie.
Justin Mehr, Associate Director for HofstraCard Services
I have been employed at Hofstra University since 2002. During my tenure, I have worked in Plant, Public Safety, and HofstraCard Services in Student Affairs. I have also served as on-call facility supervisor and was charged with securing and maintaining the campus and surrounding community on a 24/7 basis.
I am also in the process of completing the requirements for a Hofstra bachelor's degree in business computer information systems. As such, I plan to use the knowledge attained to update and improve upon the technical systems used and operated at Hofstra University.
As the associate director of HofstraCard Services, I am responsible for the overall administration of the University Onecard system. I am also responsible for managing the installation and maintenance of all Onecard hardware and software and assisting in the processing and reconciliation of financial accounts associated with meal olans and Dutch Debits.
I am originally from Lynbrook, NY, but I currently reside in Queens, NY. When I’m not engaging with colleagues and students, I am likely to spend most of my time traveling with a group of close friends, enjoying the outdoors with activities such as running, biking, and skiboarding, and cheering on New York sports teams (Knicks, Jets, Mets, and Islanders)
Kristofer Hogan, Senior Assistant Director for HofstraCard Services
I have been employed at Hofstra University for over a decade in HofstraCard Services within Student Affairs, starting in 2008 as coordinator for technical services. Prior to working at Hofstra, I was operations manager and IT director for a wholesale distributor in Mamaroneck, NY. I have also maintained a private IT/operations consulting business in my spare time, with clients in Manhattan, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk.
As the associate director for HofstraCard Services, I supervise HofstraCard administrators and student workers. Our goal is to become part of the student experience and provide excellent customer service. Everyone on campus passes through our office at least once during their time at Hofstra University for their Hofstra ID, and I am proud to be a part of such an efficient and friendly team. Students are our most frequent customers, and I always seek to have each one leave with a smile, whether they have come for a replacement ID, passport photos, or any of our other services. I also manage the office social media accounts and Snacks & Services tabling events, using both to provide reminders for important ID-related dates, answering questions, and occasionally giving out prizes.
After attending a few different schools, I completed my AAS in Information Systems at Westchester Community College and am now pursuing my BA in Business Management at Hofstra. Outside of work, I am a devoted father who enjoys making music, cooking, and writing
Carol Ruppieko, Billing Agent
I started working at Hofstra in 1985, and I have had the privilege of working with many caring, dedicated, and talented Hofstra employees while working in the Offices of Financial Aid, Academic Records, HCLAS, Residential Programs, and HofstraCard Services.
In HofstraCard Services, I am responsible for handling and managing all finances related to daily deposits and monthly reconciliations for dining plans and Dutch Debit accounts. I also spend time working with students, helping them understand how their dining plan accounts are maintained and managed in relation to account balances and/or adjustments that need to be made based on dining plan usage.
In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, shopping, dining out with my husband, and spending time with my family. My husband, Darryl, and I have three wonderful children - Michael, John, and Kelly. I also have a very special daughter-in-law, Sue, and three beautiful granddaughters - Charley, Riley, and Victoria. If you ask me……the greatest part of the day is being able to work with students and being part of the Hofstra student experience.
Stefan Faison, HofstraCard Administrator
I am an administrator in the office for HofstraCard Services, where I oversee administrative functions related to the production and issuance of campus ID cards. I hold a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hofstra University and an MA in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University. While completing my coursework, he worked at Fordham University as the graduate assistant of student formation and the graduate assistant of student organizations and programming. As a student, my research interests were culture and diversity in higher education, first-generation students, and finding ways to better advocate for marginalized communities.
As a mission- and service-oriented I encourage students to find greater purpose and meaning in their work and in their daily lives. Throughout my career, I hope to encourage students to engage in learning outside of the classroom and motivate them to lead meaningful lives after college.
I live on Long Island, but enjoy taking advantage of Hofstra’s proximity to New York City to see Broadway shows, try new restaurants, and visit museums.
Angela Pittman, HofstraCard Administrator
I started working as a part-time administrator for HofstraCard Services in October of 2018. I enjoy producing Hofstra ID Cards and passport photos and providing quality service for our students and faculty. It is very fulfilling interacting with people and ensuring that each person who requires our services feels welcome and satisfied. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to work with such a wonderful, supportive, and mentoring team in which I can further develop. Hofstra also provides great benefits, beautiful grounds, and a fun, event-filled, active environment surrounded by young, energetic people.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Long Island University and an Associates in Liberal Arts from SUNY Farmingdale. Right out of college, I started working for Olympus America Inc. and stayed for 15 years. I have worked in various departments, including customer support, digital technical support, and quality assurance.
I am very fortunate to have a great family and good friends. I live with my husband and three children. I enjoy playing sports with my kids, going to a good concert or comedy show, reading the latest news on Fortune 500 companies, photography, and traveling.
