Students Step Up for Sandy Relief Efforts

How to help off-campus

LB Relief Effort
157 E Sunrise Hwy, Freeport, 11520, inside the Floor Mart Bldg
Help load, unload and sort donations for delivery into Long Beach and neighboring towns. Drivers are also needed. Shifts vary. For moreinformation check out updated posts here. (organized by Student Affairs Director of Communications Kerri Tortorella) Donations are also accepted at this location.

Needed: Industrial strength black garbage bags, heavy duty rubber gloves, water, non-perishable food , Flashlights and batteries (AA, AAA, D), generators, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo etc.), new underwear and socks in packaging- all sizes, paper goods (to distributefood), baby items (diapers, wipes), toys/activities for kids, gas and gas cans, plastic bins, dog food, manual can openers, plastic bins, clean dry and organized clothing, BLANKETS, gloves, scarves, hats, winter coats, disposable cameras, markers and poster board, sanitary wipes, cleaning supplies, water, soap.

Food Not Bombs
Food Not Bombs will be holding a food share in the parking lot of the Hempstead LIRR Station this Sunday, November 11

The Interfaith Nutrition Network
The Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) is looking for volunteers to come in after hours, Monday through Friday 2-5 PM, to sort groceries, make shower bags, sort clothing, etc. at their soup kitchen in Hempstead (211 Fulton Avenue). Mid Island Collision's Annual Thanksgiving "Fill The Bag" Drive

Island Park Recovery Project:
The Island Park Sandy Recovery Center is asking for college students to volunteer and aid in their recovery operation for residence of Island Park. We've established a place on the portal where people can advertise donations or needs they have.  If you have a room or apartment available, if you need an apartment or a couch or a used textbook, if you have kitchen items or bedding to donate to someone, this exchange will allow our community to match needs with donations.  It is available at

Are you a Hofstra residential or commuting student who is interested in hosting another student temporarily in your residence hall or off-campus home?

Are you a commuting student in need of a temporary place to stay?

If you answered "yes" to either one of these questions, please consider placing your name on "Sandy's List" located at: This on-line program will connect students who have rooms to share with those students in need of temporary accommodations.

On-campus student hosts:
The Office of Residential Programs will provide an extended guest policy through 11/16/12.  To officially register for this program you and your guest must stop by the Office of Residential Programs, Student Center Room 244, to receive a pass that will grant them access to your residence hall.  Please be sure that your guest has a current Hofstra ID card.  If they do not have an ID card available, please stop by the Hofstra Card Services Office, Student Center Room 104 to receive a new ID card.  The ID card and guest pass must be provided each time your guest enters your hall.
