LGBT Studies focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, their history and culture, considering sexualities and genders as identities, social statuses, categories of knowledge, and as lenses that help us to frame how we understand our world.
In 2002, Hofstra University established an unprecedented scholarship program for students engaged in service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) community.
Inclusive Q-mmunity Training is a 4 hour training designed to introduce LGBTQ+ terminology, issues, resources and information. Participants will learn how to practice effective allyship that is inclusion of all identities and their intersections. All participants may receive a button and/or sticker after completing the training and agreeing to be an advocate for LGBTQ+ individuals. This training is available to the entire Hofstra community.
The Pride Network (TPN)
The Pride Network is an organization, powered by young adults, uniting people, and organizations within the LGBTQ+ movement. TPN encourages the self-expression of LGBTQ+ students and their allies through support, promotion and production of media. TPN works to end bias and prejudice by providing education and practical solutions to facilitate change.
Gender Identity Alliance (GIA)
GIA holds weekly meetings to advocate for members of the Transgender, Gender non-conforming, non-binary and gender fluid communities, as well as to educate those with little to no knowledge on various gender identities and expressions in the hopes of making Hofstra a more comfortable community for all.
Queer and Trans People of Color Coalition (QTPOCC)
The Queer and Trans People of Color Coalition strives to create a safe space conductive for LGBTQ+ people of color and their allies to have proactive discussions about social justice, effective allyship and how to evoke positive change in our communities.
