Family Weekend, October 1 and 2, 2021

Chance Auction and 50/50 Raffle

Each fall, Hofstra's Parent and Family Council organizes, through efforts of parent volunteers, an annual Chance Auction and a 50/50 Raffle. Volunteers ask families and vendors for donations that go toward the valuable chance auction baskets. During Family Weekend, community members buy chances and place them next to their desired baskets or they can purchase the 50/50 raffle tickets. This year, the Parent and Family Council's Chance Auction takes place on Friday and Saturday, October 1 and 2. If you are coming to Family Weekend, you will be able to view the baskets and purchase the chances in the Multipurpose Room, Mack Student Center, North Campus, on Friday, October 1, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The silent drawing will be held on Saturday, October 2, at 4 p.m. Winners do not need to be present but must pick up their prize by 5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Mack Student Center. Please note that there may be fees and taxes associated with some prizes.

Chance Auction

Hofstra's Parent Council has decided that the proceeds of the most recent Chance Auction will equally benefit the Student Emergency Fund and the Family Weekend Fund. We are very grateful to Hofstra families, vendors, and campus community members who contributed to the Chance Auction.

Student Emergency Fund

The Student Emergency Fund assists students and their families in times of crisis or emergency. The Fund is administered with discretion by the assistant vice president of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the vice president of Student Affairs. Hofstra's faculty and staff are encouraged to identify students in need who could benefit from this one-time financial assist. The Student Affairs vice president and assistant vice president will consider recommendations that are brought to them, in consultation with student financial services and other campus colleagues.

Typically, this fund helps students replace belongings that have been destroyed or stolen, assists with travel expenses to be with family in an emergency, helps students who need essentials (like food), or with other similar situations. Donations and gifts to the Fund are welcomed from individuals or groups and will be used exclusively to provide direct support to students who are in dire need.

Family Weekend Fund

Family Weekend is an integral part of the Hofstra Fall Festival. It is the main campus event that connects parents and family members of Hofstra students to our campus. Faculty members offer model classes to parents and families and provide information about advisement, career education, and planning. Tours of the Hofstra Arboretum are offered and parents and family members can attend student performance shows. Parents connect to their students and to Hofstra faculty and administrators through these social events.

Every year, there are families who cannot afford to attend Family Weekend because of the registration fees and event costs. Hofstra University and the Parent Council would like to make the events of the weekend more affordable and invite the members of our community to support the Family Weekend Fund.
