Welcome/Move-In Day - Fall 2018
Thursday, August 30, 2018 is the start of Welcome Week for residential and commuting first-year and transfer students and the Welcome Day for parents and families. For more information about the Welcome Week Program for STUDENTS, visit hofstra.edu/welcomeweek. Both commuting and residential families are cordially invited to attend the parent and family program on August 30 and 31 (see below).
The residential students learn the move-in time in the housing assignment message emailed to their Hofstra Pride email account. Commuting students check in at noon. Breakfast/lunch/dinner are available for purchase at the dining facilities on campus, including Mack Student Center Dining Room and Bits & Bytes. A complete schedule for Hofstra's dining facilities is at hofstra.edu/dining. If you need a hotel room, you may consult our list of nearby hotels. If you want to register for Hofstra Fall Festival - Family Weekend, please visit hofstra.edu/fw.

Do you want to register for Hofstra Fall Festival - Family Weekend? Or write a message to your student to be delivered the second week of classes? Look for the Parent and Family Programs tent where we will welcome you and answer your questions.
If you did not attend Family Orientation this summer, please come to this brief version of the orientation program. Please be prepared to say goodbye to your student before the Convocation.

Before the Convocation, please say goodbye to your student. Join Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Gail M. Simmons, Vice President for Student Affairs W. Houston Dougharty, and Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Jessica Eads as they welcome new students and families to the Hofstra community. Class of 2022 students will sit together as a class and apart from their families. After Convocation, students follow their Welcome Week Leaders and start the exciting student program of the Welcome Week.

Families celebrate this new stage of their family's life with other parents and family members, Parent Council members, faculty, administrators and staff.
The Welcome Week takes place August 30-September 3 and involve students in events and sessions throughout the Labor Day weekend.

How to Mentor Your Emerging Adult
Greenhouse, Lower Level, Mack Student Center
Your child is now a college student. How will your parenting role change? Dr. Diane Herbert, dean of the Center for Academic Excellence, a staff psychologist at the Student Health and Counseling Center, and Branka Kristic, director of parent and family programs, will lead this interactive workshop to discuss the developmental milestones your student is going through and examine which parenting methods are effective with young and emerging adults.
Please note that you will not reconnect with your student on Friday. Students follow their Welcome Week Program.
First day of classes is Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
