Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Conference

April 8 - 10, 2011

Hofstra University is proud to host the 9th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference of the Colonial Academic Alliance (CAA). The conference will take place April 8-10, 2011, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

This thriving and now well-established yearly conference celebrates the CAA’s shared mission of academic excellence in general and the outstanding work of student researchers in particular. Advanced students present the results of their research, often for the very first time, to an audience of fellow researchers (students, faculty and administrators) outside of their home department, college or university, which thus marks for many the beginning of their public life in their chosen discipline. The students and faculty advisers share the excitement of this momentous transition in the presentation and discussion of their research. Several nationally renowned Hofstra researchers from different fields will set the tone, based on their own experiences, of disciplined inquiry and the free-wheeling exchange of ideas. In addition, Interest Groups also meet to share ideas, compare developments and advance the discussion of their common interests across the member schools.

The CAA URC (formerly the CAA C STARS: Colonial Student Annual Research Symposium) was hosted for the first time by George Mason University in 2003, the University of Delaware in 2004, Hofstra University in 2005, James Madison University in 2006, the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2007, Northeastern University in 2008, Towson University in 2009 and Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010. Hofstra is happy and proud to host the CAA URC for the second time as part of the ongoing celebration in 2010-2011 of the university’s 75th anniversary.

Call for Papers and Posters

The 2011 conference will feature poster sessions and panels of oral presentations. Each member institution is invited to bring up to ten student participants, of which two or three may deliver oral presentations. We recommend that one or two faculty members accompany the student participants to the CAA conference. Faculty advisors are encouraged to select student participants from a wide distribution of research fields. Additionally, the poster sessions and the oral presentation sessions are open to the University community.
