The M.S.Ed. in Special Education: International Perspectives is a 31 semester-hour program that is offered entirely online to educators and related service professionals world-wide.
Program participants learn Special Education curriculum across developmental levels (early childhood, elementary, adolescent, adult) and a range of disabilities. Upon completion of the degree, candidates will have the ability to apply the special education content within their own professional areas to meet the goal of education for students with disabilities. This degree does not lead to New York State certification in Special Education.
Upon graduation, participants will be ready to serve as leaders in countries committed to meeting the goals of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2012).

This program prepares teachers to work with students at the early childhood, childhood, and adolescent levels, across range of disabilities.

Admission Requirements
Applications are accepted electronically through the Office of Graduate Admission website at hofstra.edu/gradapply. Admission to the program is based on a comprehensive review of multiple criteria, including the following:
- A baccalaureate degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Academic transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate coursework, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
- Personal statement addressing intent to pursue a career in special education.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- TOEFL scores for international students.
The program director may also request an interview to further discuss a candidate's application materials. The department understands that any single criterion may not reliably predict a candidate's potential for success in a master's program. Consequently, candidates are welcome to apply if they do not meet one of the criteria but feel that other aspects of their experience may compensate.
