Climate Survey

Climate Survey

At Hofstra University we seek to create an environment characterized by openness, fairness, and equal access for all students, staff, and faculty. A welcoming and inclusive campus climate is grounded in mutual respect, nurtured by dialogue, evidenced by a pattern of civil interaction, and is one of the foundations of our educational model. Creating and maintaining a community environment that respects individual needs, abilities, and potential is critically important.

In furtherance of these critical objectives, Hofstra University is conducting a campus wide climate survey looking at a variety of topics that affect our Hofstra community. The four Hofstra administrative officers working with Rankin & Associates on this initiative are Provost Gail Simmons, Vice President for Student Affairs W. Houston Dougharty, Vice President for Institutional Research Stephanie Bushey, and Deputy General Counsel and Equal Rights and Opportunity Officer Jennifer Mone.

This effort came out of the Hofstra LGBTQQIA Task Force that is currently co-chaired by Hofstra’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Gail Simmons and Vice President for Student Affairs W. Houston Dougharty. The assessment will address multiple aspects of identity, including position on campus, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or faith orientation, socio economic class, age, and others.

The climate survey will consist of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The approach is comprehensive – including all aspects of the campus community: students, faculty, administrators, staff, and all of our undergraduate and graduate programs.
