Entrance Immigration Check-In

New International Students

All new international students must complete an entrance immigration check-in and attend International Student Orientation. Accepted students will receive an email with instructions on how to check-in. If you have any questions about the check-in process, please contact International Student Affairs at internationa{at}hofstra.edu.

Returning International Students

We no longer require continuing students to complete an entrance check-in each semester. If you traveled outside the U.S. over the break, please take a moment to review your immigration documents:

  1. Is your passport still valid for 6 months beyond your program end date? If not, take steps to have it renewed with your consulate.
  2. Is the student visa in your passport still valid? If not, the next time you travel outside the U.S. you will need to make sure that you leave enough time to process a renewal prior to your return.
  3. Is the information on your Form I-20 or DS-2019 still correct? Has your major changed? Is your program end date still accurate? Has your funding changed significantly? If yes, your document requires an update.
  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Does your passport have an entrance stamp indicating F-1 D/S or J-1 D/S? If a date (as opposed to D/S) is written in your passport, you were only admitted to the U.S. for 30 days and should have received a form I-515. This could have happened if you forgot to have your document signed prior to leaving or if you forgot your document completely. Any student with a Form I-515 and a date written on their entrance stamp in their passport, must come to our office immediately to have this fixed.
  5. We are happy to check your documents for you. Please feel free to stop by during regular office hours.

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ADDRESS! Every time you move to a new address (or arrive here for the first time), you MUST update your current "mailing address" through the Hofstra Portal and notify our office. You can come by our office to make the change or send us an email at international{at}hofstra.edu. Failure to maintain your address accordingly will result in a status violation per immigration regulations.
