International Student Orientation

In accordance with New York state policy and Hofstra University's decisions, International Student Orientation has been moved to a virtual format and the dates altered to accommodate an early start to the fall semester. Please check your Hofstra email address regularly for more information.

International Student Orientation provides important information about the Hofstra campus, immigration regulations, staying healthy and safe, academic requirements and the many campus services available to help you succeed and have a great experience at Hofstra. At virtual orientation you will have the opportunity to participate in many activities that will prepare you to become a member of the Hofstra community whether you are located within or outside the U.S.

Fall 2020 International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation for students beginning their program in Fall 2020 will take place virtually over three days from Monday, August 17 through Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Detailed information about orientation will be emailed to the Hofstra email address of accepted students whose I-20 or DS-2019 has been issued. Please note that international students are allowed to enter the U.S. no more than 30 days before the program start date listed on their I-20.

Graduate students may also have separate, program-specific activities in addition to International Student Orientation. Graduate students will receive information about any program-specific activities directly from their department or their program's Admission office.

Transportation, Move-in and Housing

We encourage you to review our information on how to prepare for your arrival in the U.S. at www.hofstra.edu/prearrival. Please make appropriate arrangements for transportation from the airport to campus after you arrive in the United States. Please see this page of our website for directions to Hofstra and information about how to get to Hofstra using various modes of public transportation.

Hofstra's Office of Residence Life will provide information regarding move-in procedures for new international students over the summer. Questions regarding on-campus housing should be directed to the Office of Residence Life. To request a place to live on campus, students must complete a housing application and pay the housing deposit. See instructions on how to apply for housing.

New international students living off campus or arriving earlier than the official move-in are responsible for finding their own accommodation. The Office of Commuting Student Services can provide advice and resources to help you find a place to live off campus. You can contact them at +1-516-463-3469 or commuters{at}hofstra.edu. Information on local hotels near the Hofstra campus can be found on this page.

We look forward to seeing you at International Student Orientation and if we can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact us at international{at}hofstra.edu!
