About Us

All my life, I have felt connected to college campuses and always knew in my heart that I would spend my career working with students in some capacity. I love watching students grow and learn!

Before coming to Hofstra, I served as an advisor and administrator at Columbia University for nearly a decade. My responsibilities included academic advising and building relationships and learning opportunities with Harlem community based organizations.

Throughout my career in higher education, I have dedicated myself to building strong connections between faculty, students and the wider community, serving student success through commitment to open, honest communication.

I hold a MA in Administration and Policy Studies in Education from McGill University, a Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies from Concordia University in Montreal and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut.

I've been fortunate enough to live and work in Canada, China and Germany. Pottery is a passion of mine as is my family – husband David and son Jacob.

I joined Hofstra in fall 2013 semester. As the assistant director of International Student Affairs, I issue the immigration documents for international students and assist them with immigration issues. I also help the international students adjust to the U.S. American culture and become successful in the academic study. As a former international student, my personal experience makes me understanding of the needs of international students.

I earned my bachelor's degree in Chinese language and literature from Qingdao University in China. Then I came to U.S. in 2006 to pursue my master's degree at Mississippi College in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I started working in international education field from 2008 after I graduated. I worked at an English language school and a two-year institution in New York City as an international student advisor prior to joining the Division of Student Affairs at Hofstra.

I was born and raised in the beautiful coastal city of Qingdao, in China. You probably know it because of their famous beer: Tsingtao. My lovely husband Peter and I like to travel and cook. Our beautiful daughter, Chelsea, was born in 2012. Now she is a big girl and very energetic. We hope she can speak at least three languages: English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

I have been working at Hofstra for 33 years. My first job was as a stack attendant in the library. I was a stack attendant for two years. My other positions were in the Circulation Department, Center for University Advisement and now International Student Affairs.

Of all the positions I have had, International Student Affairs is my favorite. I enjoy meeting the students from different cultures and learning about their countries. Part of my job is to enter all their visa information into the computer and mailing immigration documents to new international students. I have become an expert at multi-tasking. I attended four weddings of international students: two on Long Island, one in Washington, D.C. and one in Ochos Rios, Jamaica.

I grew up in Uniondale until I got married in 1973 and moved to Brooklyn. I lived there for four years until my husband and I bought a house in Uniondale which ended up being one street from my childhood home. I have four children, three boys and a girl. I now live in Huntington Station with two of my sons.

I love dogs and have two, a chocolate lab named Smokey and a pit bull mix called Pennys. I am an avid sports fan of the Mets, Islanders, Giants and Knicks. I collect dolls and have at least 1000. I also love shoes and have over 400 pairs. I enjoy going to rock concerts. I met every member of my favorite group, Chicago. All in all, life is good!

I develop, implement, and manage comprehensive intercultural programs, resources, and outreach in support of international student success at Hofstra. Primarily, I oversee coordination of our office’s calendar of events, including International Orientation, the Global Mentor Program, and International Education Week.

I joined Hofstra University in the fall of 2017. Previously, I worked as an on-site administrator at Middlebury College's CMRS Oxford Humanities Program in the U.K. and as an English instructor on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. My experiences working and living abroad for many years have driven my enthusiasm for cross-cultural exchange and commitment to helping students through exciting and challenging cultural transitions.

I received an M.A. in International Education Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and a B.A. in Anthropology and East Asian Studies from Brandeis University. I was born and raised on Long Island, and love traveling, cooking, and visiting art galleries in New York City.

I am an international student from Singapore, currently pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Analytics and Business Operations. My passion for healthcare has led me to gain a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Australia and work as an ICU nurse for six years.

During the global pandemic, I realized that healthcare leaders require business knowledge to make a significant impact to society. Thus, I decided to pursue an MBA in Healthcare Analytics and Business Operations to equip myself with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a difference in the healthcare industry.

As an international student, I understand the challenges that international students face and am driven by my passion to share my experience and help others overcome these challenges. I am dedicated to supporting fellow international students in their academic and personal growth, and I am excited to make a positive contribution to Hofstra community.
