Hofstra's Student Government Association

SGA President’s Welcome

President’s Welcome

Dear Students,

Welcome to an exciting new academic year! My name is Rita Cinquemani and I am serving as the Student Government Association President for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Hofstra University is composed of over 6,000 undergraduate students, all with different backgrounds, majors, and interests. Together, we pride ourselves in being informed citizens who try to make our community a better place. As a result, we have a diverse student body that is both passionate and involved in over 200 recognized organizations.

The Student Government Association is an undergraduate governing body that represents this diverse community and assists in any way possible to help make each student's college experience a great one. Our organization is comprised of full-time and Associate Senators, Justices, Chairpersons, and an Executive Board, all of whom have each student's interests in mind.

My Vice President, Abby Normandin, and I were elected with a vision: to help students feel connected to the Hofstra community to ensure that it is a welcoming environment where everyone feels equipped to navigate and leave their mark. However, to accomplish this goal, we need the support and input of our fellow students.

Over the course of this year, we will be advocating for students by building relationships with different administrative departments, increasing communication with student organizations, and interacting with the student body on a regular basis. We will accomplish this by tabling weekly to get suggestions on what can be improved on campus, as well as polling regularly. Similarly, we have already established set office hours for each member of the Executive Board and our Cabinet.

Along with more communication, we will be promoting diversity and cultural awareness on our campus. To do so, we have created a new position, known as the Inclusion Ambassador. This representative will be spearheading diversity programming alongside our Student Services and Club Relations Committees. We will also be working closely with various departments on campus to promote Social Justice events and cosponsor trainings that would be beneficial for the community at large. For these goals to be accomplished, we need your assistance!

I invite you to stop by our office located in the Center for Student Collaboration (Student Center Room 242) and chat with a member of the Student Government Association. Come say hello, offer a suggestion on how to improve our community, or ask a question.

Similarly, I invite you to stop by my office hours which are Thursdays from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM or to send me an email at sga_president@pride.hofstra.edu .

Hofstra is an amazing community and I look forward to working with you to make this academic year, a great one!

Best Regards,

Rita Cinquemani
