SGA Vice-President Welcome Letter:

To our Hofstra peers,

My name is Deandra Denton and I am thrilled to serve as your Vice President for the 2018-2019 academic year!

Over the last year, the Hofstra community has grown. The momentum that has been built behind various conversations and initiatives on campus continues to motivate the Student Government Association to actively listen to and act in the best interest of our peers.

SGA prides itself on being a resource for Hofstra undergraduate students. We have advocated for students, allocated resources, and worked to cultivate a community. During the 83rd Senate, Abby and I plan to continue this but also make several improvements.

We believe that advocating for students requires fostering relationships and going to our peers where they are. We want to know you by name, listen to your ideas, and attend your incredible events. By doing so, this will help SGA to get a better understanding of our peers’ experiences and amplify their voices throughout the Hofstra community.

Allocating resources entails fairness and universal accessibility. All students and student organizations should feel truly represented by SGA and know that they can rely on our organization whether for funding or otherwise.

Cultivating a stronger community means that every student feels safe, represented, and engaged on Hofstra’s campus. Your identity helps to shape who you are and can make a mark during your time at Hofstra. We all have the power to make a positive difference on campus. Abby and want to make sure that SGA is having active dialogue with you on your interests and concerns, and collaboratively working with you to take action.

Abby and I were elected, by you. We will channel our energy towards initiatives, representation, and bringing sustainable and positive change to campus. Your presence, voice, and concerns matter to us. We want to hear you, work with you, and help to make a difference for you.

Please never hesitate to reach out. You can send me an email, stop by the Student Success Collaborative wing in Student Center 242 where SGA shares an office space, or simply say “hi” when walking around campus.

I wish you the best this year and I am excited to work hand in hand with you all!
