The Division of Student Affairs is encouraging Hofstra students, faculty, and staff to “Pay Your P.R.I.D.E. Forward” and engage in random (or not so random) acts of kindness throughout P.R.I.D.E. Week, February 25 through March 1, 2013.  These acts can be conducted as an individual, or through the collective efforts of a student club or organization, office, or department.  Stop by the P.R.I.D.E Week table in the Student Center Atrium to sign up, and check out the list below for ideas on how you can spread good cheer throughout our Hofstra community.

  1. Buy a coffee for the person in line behind you.
  2. Leave a positive note for a stranger on his/her car windshield.
  3. Offer to take empty your neighbor’s trash.
  4. Hand out bottled water and encouragement at the Fitness Center during peak workout times.
  5. Tape exact change for a soda to a vending machine.
  6. Organize a drive to collect donations of clothes, toys, household goods to a local charitable organization.
  7. Tape an inspirational quote/picture/article on one of the commuter lockers in the Student Center or to a residence hall room door.
  8. Clean the snow off another person’s windshield. 
  9. Help clear peoples’ trays from one of the dining facilities.
  10. Bake cookies and leave them in a residence hall or commuter lounge.
  11. Decorate someone’s door who has a birthday.
  12. Let someone get in line in front of you.
  13. Forward an email coupon.
  14. Drop off cookies to an office on campus.
  15. Leave a book or magazine in a lounge for someone else to enjoy.
  16. Write letters to people overseas in the military.
  17. Write a note to the supervisor of someone who has given you good service.
  18. Give a lottery ticket to a stranger.
  19. Make a choice to say only positive things to and about people all day.
  20. Pick up a piece of trash on the ground, wipe up a spill, or throw away the papers, cups, water bottles, and wrappers left in a classroom.
  21. If you spot someone committing an act of kindness, acknowledge their efforts.
  22. Leave a sticky note with a kind, positive, or encouraging message on a mirror in a public bathroom, office door, classroom desk, or anywhere it might brighten someone’s day.
  23. Let someone else take the parking spot closer to the door.
  24. Hold the door open for someone.
  25. Say “good morning” to a stranger.
  26. Be a designated driver.
  27. Give someone a hug.
  28. Be a role model.
  29. Introduce yourself to a classmate you don’t know.
  30. Ride your bike to class.
  31. Be generous with compliments
  32. Offer someone a piece of gum.
  33. Offer to tutor a classmate who needs help.
  34. Make someone laugh.
  35. Share a music playlist with a friend.
  36. Make a positive comment on a website or blog.
  37. Cook a meal for someone.
  38. Make a small donation to the Fund for Hofstra University, which will provide financial aid and scholarships to future Hofstra students.  Check here for more information.
  39. Write a thank you note.
  40. Support Hofstra Pride athletics by attending one of the home games this week (Check here for the schedule.
  41. Clean the apartment for your roommates.
  42. Share a positive blog post.
  43. Offer a ride to someone who doesn’t have a car.
  44. Use less paper.
  45. Recycle.
  46. Do a household chore for someone.
  47. Write a letter to someone who made a difference in your life.
  48. Share your umbrella with someone who doesn’t have one.
  49. Wash your roommate’s dishes.
  50. Leave your change in the soda machine for the next person.
  51. Slip friendly, encouraging notes (or small gift cards) into or between books in the library for someone to find
  52. Deliver a treat to your RA.
  53. Stop by an atrium table and support a club’s fundraising efforts.
  54. Sign up to do a community service project.
  55. Write a thank you note to a faculty member who has impacted you.
  56. Call your little brother or sister to ask about his/her day.
  57. Offer directions or assistance to someone on campus who looks lost.
