2017-18 Steps to Graduation for Seniors

Congratulations, you're almost a Hofstra graduate! You should receive necessary steps toward graduation several times through your Hofstra Pride email account. Please keep a close eye on your inbox so you don't miss any information. In addition, here is a summary of steps toward graduation:


SENIOR PROGRAMS

The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement offers a number of events for seniors to take advantage of during the year.

How to Adult
These workshops are designed for seniors to talk about practical life skills that will help you after graduation such as renting an apartment, healthcare, job benefits and retirement plans, and more! We will also host networking opportunities with recent alumni.

100 Days to Graduation
Celebrate 100 days to graduation with a fun and interactive fair for graduating seniors! Graduation checks, cap & gown try on, arts & crafts, food, and giveaways! Join us on Friday February 9, 2018 from 12pm – 2pm in the Student Center Atrium.

Senior Class Toast
Seniors (undergraduates) graduating in December 2017 and May 2018 and their family members are cordially invited to Hofstra's Toast to the Class of 2018 on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Main Dining Room, David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus.

APPLY FOR GRADUATION

Once your complete 90 credits (attain a senior status) you are emailed and told to apply for graduation. Deadlines to apply for graduation are:

For Spring (May) Graduation: Candidates must file by October 1. If the application is received after October 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received later than March 1, there is a $50 fee.

For August Graduation: Candidates must file by March 1. If the application is received after March 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received later than August 15, there is a $50 fee.

For Midyear (December) Graduation: Candidates must file by May 1. If the application is received after May 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received after October 1, there is a $50 fee.

If you believe you have senior status and have not received any notifications about graduation, please contact your advising dean. It is also good to check your Degree Works audit, available through the portal. The Center for University Advising is located in 101 Memorial Hall; their phone is 516-463-6770.


CAPS AND GOWNS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, RINGS, …

The Commencement Office sends several e-mails to graduating seniors about graduation fairs and commencements. At the graduation fair, students will have the opportunity to order their caps and gowns, order rings and announcements and make appointments for senior portraits.

To confirm graduation ceremony attendance and order of academic attire, please visit www.hofstra.edu/academicattire. Simply follow the easy online instructions, carefully check the order and submit.  An order confirmation will display.  Orders for academic attire must be received by April 14, 2018.

Additional information will be emailed on or around March 1st to your pride.hofstra.edu email account.


SENIOR PORTRAITS

Senior Portraits are available through Island Photography, with sessions available on and off campus in the fall and spring semesters

  • Spring 2018 portrait dates: Saturday, March 10, Wednesday, March 14, and Monday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 11, all in Student Center Plaza East.
  • Appointments are required, please click here to make an appointment.
  • You may alternatively visit Island Photography studio, located at 139 Haven Ave. in Port Washington, NY. Call 516-767-1234 for an appointment.
  • There is a $15 sitting fee for your senior portraits.

COMMENCEMENT DATES

The Spring 2018 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 9 a.m. for Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Education, and School of Health Professions and Human Services and at 1 p.m. for Frank G. Zarb School of Business, The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Information about the Spring and Midyear Commencements can be obtained at hofstra.edu/commencement. Information can also be obtained by emailing the Commencement Office at graduation[at]hofstra.edu, or contacting them at (516) 463-4346.

February 4 Sunday Last Day to register or add a class online
February 5 Monday Department permission required to add classes. Override form required to register.
February 19 Monday President's Break - NO Classes. University Closed
February 20 Tuesday President's Break - NO Classes.
Febraury 23 Friday Absolute last day to register or add a class
February 26 Monday Last day to drop a course without recieving a "W" grade on transcript.
March 7 Wednesday Last day to file the Pass/D/D+/Fail form.
March 18-24 Sundat to Saturday Spring Recess. Classes not in session.
April 13 Friday Last day to file the Repeat Course form
    Last day to withdraw from an individual course - for Undergraduate students.

Mr. Jeremy Cooper, Partner: Prior to co-founding Cooper & Cooper, Jeremy served as a Senior Associate in the Investment Banking Division at Banc of America Securities. He executed many billion dollar transactions in mergers & acquisitions, equity offerings and debt financings in the insurance sector. Jeremy worked as an on-air television meteorologist for years at ABC, FOX, and NBC affiliates. He holds degrees from Northwestern University (Environmental Science), Penn State (Meteorology), and Columbia Business School (MBA – Finance).

Mr. Jordan Cooper, Partner: Jordan was a Top Producer at a large real estate firm for several years prior to co-founding Cooper & Cooper with his brother, Jeremy. Jordan served as an investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the Financial Institutions Group. His deal experience includes several high-profile transactions, most notably the $3 billion demutualization & IPO of Prudential Insurance, and the $30 billion acquisition of Associates First Capital by Citigroup. Jordan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Harvard University with a degree in Economics.
