Michael Martin, Director for HofstraCard Services

Michael Martin

I started  working as Director for HofstraCard Services in 2012. Prior to employment with Hofstra University, I worked with City and State government for over 20 years, including 12 years as Director, Technical Services, Internal Security Department for MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and 3 years’ work experience as an Urban Park Ranger. I also have 4 years’ experience working as Director, Homeland Security/Homeland Defense for the Northrop Grumman Corporation.

I along with the HofstraCard team are very proud to claim that we are uniquely positioned to personally meet, greet and take a picture of every student who attends Hofstra University. My staff and I are also very proud to be part of the student experience and take pride in managing the students’ security access, Dutch debit, and meal plan accounts. Go Pride!

I hold a Master’s degree from St. John's University in Government and Politics. I also have a Bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Government and Public Administration.

My wife and I live in Commack, New York, we have 3 children, Michael, Michele and Kellie.

Justin Mehr, Associate Director for HofstraCard Services

Justin MehrI have been employed at Hofstra University since 2002. During my tenure I have worked in Plant, Public Safety and HofstraCard Services in Student Affairs. I have also served as On-Call Facility Supervisor and was required to secure and maintain the campus and surrounding community on a 24 x 7 basis.

I am also in the process of completing my Hofstra Bachelor requirements for a Degree in Business Computer Information Systems. As such, I plan to use the knowledge attained to update and improve upon the technical systems used and operated at Hofstra University.

As the Associate Director of HofstraCard Services, I am responsible for the overall administration of the University Onecard system. I am also responsible for managing the installation and maintenance of all Onecard hardware and software and assisting in the processing and reconciliation of financial accounts associated with Meal Plans and Dutch Debits.

I am originally from Lynbrook, NY but I currently reside in Queens, NY. When I’m not engaging with colleagues and students, I am likely to spend most of my time traveling with a group of close friends, enjoying the outdoors with activities such as running, biking, and skiboarding, and cheering on New York sports teams (Knicks, Jets, Mets, and Islanders)

Kristofer Hogan, Senior Assistant Director for HofstraCard Services

Kristofer HoganI have been employed at Hofstra University for seven years in HofstraCard Services within Student Affairs, starting in 2008 as Coordinator for Technical Services. Prior to working at Hofstra, I was Operations Manager and IT Director for a wholesale distributor in Mamaroneck, NY. I have also maintained a private IT/operations consulting business in my spare time, with clients in Manhattan, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk.

As the Senior Assistant Director for HofstraCard Services, I supervise HofstraCard Administrators and student workers. Our goal is to become part of the student experience and provide excellent customer service. Everyone on campus passes through our office at least once during their time at Hofstra University for their Hofstra ID, and I am proud to be a part of such an efficient and friendly team. Students are our most frequent customers, and I always seek to have each one leave with a smile, whether they have come for a replacement ID, passport photos, or any of our other services. I also manage the @HofstraCard account on Twitter, tweeting reminders for important ID-related dates, answering questions, and occasionally giving out prizes.

After attending a few different schools, I completed my A.A.S. in Information Systems from Westchester Community College and am now pursuing my B.A. in Business Management at Hofstra. My wife and I have a three-year-old son, Nate, with whom I build Lego houses and airplanes. I also enjoy playing guitar (loudly), cooking, and writing.

Scott Brady, Coordinator of Technical Services for HofstraCard Services

Scott BradyI have been employed at Hofstra University as a Student Aide in the HofstraCard Services office since 2008. In the spring of 2012 I graduated from the university with a BS in Biochemistry. Once I graduated, I applied for and was hired as a Part-time Administrator for HofstraCard Services. Within a year of working In HofstraCard, I was promoted to Coordinator of Technical Services in 2013.

As the Coordinator of Technical Services it is my responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the buildings on campus by maintaining the access control readers on campus. In short, I make sure everything’s up and running, and when you swipe a card at a reader location, you are, based on access levels, able to gain entry to where you’re supposed to go (or keep you out of where you’re not!). If something is not working, I’m who you call to get it fixed.

Currently I am taking some Graduate Level prerequisite courses and am looking to pursue a graduate degree in computer science. When I am not working or doing classwork, I enjoy going into the city with friends and seeing different Broadway shows, or to sporting events such as going to hockey games (go Rangers!). I am also an actor and have been an extra in a few TV shows and movies, including the recently released movie NOAH, starring Russell Crowe.

Carol Ruppieko, Billing Agent

Carol RuppiekoI started working at Hofstra in 1985 and I have had the privilege of working with many caring, dedicated and talented Hofstra employees while working in the Offices of Financial Aid, Academic Records, HCLAS, Residential Programs and HofstraCard Services.

Currently I am working in HofstraCard Services where I am responsible for handling and managing all finances as it relates to daily deposits and monthly reconciliations for Dining Plans and Dutch Debit accounts. I also spend time working with students helping them understand how their dining plan accounts are maintained and managed in relationship to account balances and/or adjustments that need to be made based on dining plan usage.

In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, shopping, dining out with my husband and spending time with my family. My husband Darryl and I have been married for and have 3 wonderful children - Michael, John and Kelly. I also have a very special daughter in law, Sue and 3 beautiful granddaughters - Charley, Riley and Victoria. If you ask me……the greatest part of the day is being able to work with students and to be part of the Hofstra Student experience.

Jennifer J. Santana, HofstraCard Administrator

Jennifer J. SantanaI joined the Hofstra community in September of 2014 when I was accepted as a full-time student on a Dean’s scholarship. I was welcomed into the HofstraCard family my first week of classes as a student aide. I worked as a student aide for a year before I applied for the part-time administrator position and in November of 2015 I was hired.

I take my role on this team with true Hofstra Pride. I strive to make every student’s transition into the Hofstra community as exciting and memorable as mine was. It’s incredibly rewarding to help students track down their lost ID’s, replace a “swiped out” card, and take great passport photos for future trips! Being a student myself, I know how stressful college life can get. My goal is to help make the HofstraCard office a fun and informative location for all students, staff, and alumni.

I am enrolled in the dual degree Linguistics (BA) and Forensic Linguistics (MA) program with a dual major in Linguistics and Criminology and a minor in Sociology. My goal is to have a career in translating for the federal government. I commute from West Babylon where I live with my parents and three dogs. I’ve been a dancer since I was three years old and now teach it to children and teens at my parent’s church. This is my way of giving back to the community through an activity I absolutely love!

Abhishek Kumar, HofstraCard Administrator

Abhishek KumarI am part-time administrator for HofstraCard Services in the Division of Student Affairs. I previously worked in the University Tutorial Program, which later became the Center for Academic Excellence. Before coming to Hofstra, I completed my B.S. in Computer Science at RIT in Rochester, NY. I have worked in education in multiple settings and capacities, including tutoring franchises, colleges, and non-profit organizations associated with high schools.

As a HofstraCard Administrator I work primarily at the front desk, assisting customers with Hofstra ID cards, financial transactions, passport photos, and answering any questions they may have. I look forward to helping, guiding, and putting in every effort to serve all our students, employees, and every person we welcome into our office.

I aspire not just to learn something new every day, but to be genuinely amazed every day!

John Palasits, HofstraCard Administrator

John Palasits

I hail from the great state of Maryland. I joined the Hofstra community in summer 2017 as a Graduate Assistant working in the HofstraCard Services Office. After a brief stint in Residential Operations, I rejoined HofstraCard Services in November 2017 as an Administrator and I am thrilled to return to a friendly and welcoming environment. While working as an Administrator, I am currently earning my master's degree in the Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies (HELPS) program here at Hofstra. I earned my bachelor's degree in History from Salisbury University in spring 2014.

Like my fellow administrators, I strive to provide quality customer service to members of the Hofstra community. I am happy to assist with verifying credentials to create Hofstra IDs, financial transactions, passport photos, and answer any questions. I strive to make your HofstraCard Office experience pleasant so people walk out the door satisfied. Outside of work and academics, I enjoy cheering on my favorite Maryland sports teams (Orioles and Ravens), playing intramural sports, weight lifting, eating, exploring NYC, checking out Broadway shows, watching TV shows & movies on Netflix, attending concerts, and experiencing the hidden treasures that Long Island has to offer.
