Beginning in August 2018, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. is able to offer a health insurance plan to Hofstra University international and medical school students only. This will in no way impact a student’s ability to utilize services provided on campus at the Student Health and Counseling Center. Services offered to enrolled students are generally free or very low cost regardless of insurance coverage.

Gallagher has set up a special help line for Hofstra students who may wish to purchase health insurance through the federal exchange.  To avoid any gap in coverage, please call 1-877-554-5523 and select option 7 for assistance.

Domestic students who would like to purchase insurance coverage can go to the federal insurance exchange at www.healthcare.gov to find available health plans in the state where they permanently reside. If the permanent residence is outside of New York, it will be important to select a PPO plan that offers coverage throughout the United States, so that health care expenses are covered in the area near our university.  Currently enrolled students will receive more detailed information directly from Gallagher Student Health.

International students, who are required to have health insurance, should visit the International Student Affairs Health and Accident Insurance website. Medical school students at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell who wish to enroll in the Student Health Insurance should contact the Office of Student Affairs at medicine.students@Hofstra.edu.

To all our Students and Hofstra Community,

Keep yourself healthy by washing your hands, eating healthy, get plenty of rest & hydration.

Because flu can  spread by contact with people who are ill, Student Health Services recommends that community members take these precautions:

  • Get a flu shot.   Please call Student Health at 463-6745 for an appointment or come to one of our flu clinic days.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer frequently, especially after touching common surfaces such as door handles.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing with either a disposable tissue or a sleeve, and avoid touching your face.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick. Get plenty of rest to keep the immune system working at its best.
  • Monitor your health.  Flu symptoms include fever with cough or sore throat, and sometimes runny nose, body aches, headache, vomiting and/or diarrhea.

If you are traveling in any country with active Zika virus protect yourself by using Repellent and appropriate clothing to include sunscreen and drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids. Please refer to the websites below to keep yourself and others healthy:
