Angela Steinberg - Assistant Director (Clinical) of the Student Health and Counseling Center

Angela SteinbergI have been at Hofstra since 1999, both as Part Time Nurse Practitioner, and then Full Time as an Assistant Director since 2001. My background is in health care since 1977, as a Professional Registered Nurse working in critical care units until 1999, when I obtained an Advanced Nursing degree in Adult Health. As an Adult Nurse Practitioner I have worked at Hofstra University, Internal Care office, and a Day Care center for disabled adults.

I am pleased to be in a position to deliver quality health and wellness care to all our students at this great institution of Hofstra University. I strive to provide an environment of support for the growth and learning process of our students so that they can gain the knowledge to become great consumers of health while achieving their academic success. Every moment I spend with a student is a learning moment. I work with a fantastic team of professionals who are all committed to the welfare of our student population.

I was born in southern sunny Italy, and with the support of my amazing husband, two daughters and dedicated to education parents, I was able to achieve a graduate degree from Stony Brook University as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Prior to that I received a BSN degree from St. Joseph's College.

My life is about: Family, Food, and Fun in that order. I enjoy entertaining, cooking, traveling and camping with my family. In the summertime you will find me at a campsite on the beach cooking fresh caught fish. You are all welcome to join in the fun.

Maryann Walsh - Assistant Director of the Student Health and Counseling Center

Maryann WalshI have worked at the  Student Health and Counseling Center. for 16 years. Prior to joining the Division of Student Affairs at Hofstra, I was the operations coordinator for N.Y. Hospital of Queens Homecare, and prior to that office manager for a radiology group on Long Island for many years.

As the Assistant Director of the  Student Health and Counseling Center., I am almost always interacting with students from the initial phone contact and throughout their visits here. Students come in to see me for appointments, complaints and more increasingly for problems with insurance. I have assumed the role of insurance czar and explain how insurance works and how to use the health care system for their medical needs. I feel very lucky to be able to advocate for our students when they have problems with insurance and receive bills for services that need to be submitted to insurance companies and also negotiated. Helping these students is very rewarding for me and they so appreciate the assistance.

I received a bachelor's degree after many years going to school at night. I received a master's degree in 2012 in Community Health from Hofstra University. I am a single parent of two daughters who work in the teaching profession. I have 5 grandchildren who keep me happy and busy.

Lori Marziliano - Registered Nurse

Lori MarzillianoI began my career at Hofstra in September 2002. Prior to joining the Hofstra Community I worked for Visiting Nurses of Long Island. My position and experience allow me to educate, nurture; and sometimes amuse our students. I received my BSN from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, New York. I am married, have three children, a cat and a dog. And I'm allergic to all of them! : )

Julie J. Burgos - Assistant to Student Health and Counseling Center

Julie BurgosI have had the privilege of working at the  Student Health and Counseling Center. for the last 16 years. My family and friends call me Julie. Before joining the Health and Wellness Center team, I worked at South Nassau Communities Hospital Family Practice Clinic as a receptionist.

At the  Student Health and Counseling Center. I am the students', parents', faculty and administrators' first contact whether by phone or in person when they come in to our office. My purpose is to facilitate the experience of going to the doctor and to teach them how to make appointments and take charge of their health care. I personally feel that being away from home is a learning experience. It is very rewarding to me to see students flourish here at Hofstra and become responsible young men and women.

I am a Hofstra alumna. It took me 20 years to obtain my bachelor's degree. It is never too late to go back to school and achieve your dreams. I received my bachelor's degree in 2013. I am married to my high school sweet and we  have two beautiful daughters who are my pride and joy. I enjoy long walks on the beach and watching the sun go down.
