W. Houston Dougharty
Vice President for Student Affairs
The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the overall leadership, support and strategic vision for the eighteen departments that make up the Division of Student Affairs. The Vice President serves on the President's Cabinet and prioritizes partnerships across campus to nurture a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where students can thrive, both inside and outside the classroom.
The departments in the Division of Student Affairs that report directly to the Vice President engage our students and community members in a variety of ways. In addition to working with the two Assistant Vice Presidents and the departments that report to them, the Vice President supervises the Title IX Officer for Student Issues and the Student Health and Counseling Center, which share a commitment to students' health, wellness, and safety. Parent and Family Programs informs and engages parents and family members as they support their students, and Student Affairs Communications connects the DSA to our community by sharing important information about our programs, services and mission.
Hofstra University’s Division of Student Affairs is honored to be one of 18 divisions nationally on the 2017 list of “Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs” — produced by the Center for Higher Education Enterprise at The Ohio State University, American College Personnel Association, and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. This is the division's second consecutive year being names to this prestigious list.
