The use, downloading or distributing copyrighted materials is a violation of federal and state laws and is a violation of Hofstra University’s Acceptable Use Policy and Guidelines. 

This includes the following:

Movies
Television Shows
Music
Software

When caught downloading or distributing illegally the user will be subjected to civil and criminal action

If caught at Hofstra the user will lose network privileges:

First offense you lose your Internet access for 1 week
Second offense you lose it for a 1 month
Third and final offense you lose it FOREVER!

Many sites offer legal downloads, some are pay and some are free.  Below is a list of a few sites and programs that are safe to use.
