Through the PridePrint system, students are provided with print credits that allow them to print in the universities computer labs, computer equip classrooms, and from their personal computer. By installing a small PridePrint client on their computer, students can print and release their print job from any one of 38PridePrint release stations located in 25 different buildings on campus. How To Use PridePrint From Your Personal Computer:

REMINDER: To use PridePrint, you first need to install the PridePrint client on your computer.   If you haven't already done so, please choose your operating system from the downloads box on the right to download and install the PridePrint software on your computer. You cannot complete the following steps if you have not installed the PridePrint client.

After you have downloaded and installed the PridePrint client, you may be prompted with a Login window.

Log in using your Hofstra Portal username and password. Once you have logged in successfully, the PridePrint Client will appear on screen.

Printing:

Step 1: Select PRINT from your application.

Step 2: Once the print dialog box opens, select the "PridePrint" or "PridePrint_Color" printer and click the print button.

Step 3: Go to one of the conveniently located PridePrint Release Stations, listed below, and swipe your ID card.

You can now print from off campus!

Step 1: From off campus, go to http://prideprint.hofstra.edu and from on campus go to http://prideprint.hofstra.edu:9191
Step 2: Using your Hofstra Portal username and password, log in to the PridePrint website.

Step 3: Find the "Web Print" link in the left hand column and click it.

Step 5: Choose the appropriate PridePrint hold queue.

Step 6: Choose the number of copies you need and click “Upload Document.”

Step 7: Click “Choose File” to browse and find the file you wish to print and click “Upload & Complete.”

Step 8: Stop by one of the PridePrint Release stations on campus to release your print job. All jobs are held for 12 hours.

Releasing Your Print Jobs:

Printers:

Step 1: At the PridePrint Release Station - Swipe your Hofstra University ID card through the card swipe.

Step 2:  Click on the [Print Release] Button.

Step 3:  Select the job you want to release by pressing the arrow next to that print job.

Step 4:  You will see a screen that will allow you to [PRINT] your file or cancel this print job [CANCEL JOB].   Press the appropriate button.

Printer/Copiers:

Step 1: At the PridePrint Release Station - Swipe your Hofstra University ID card through the card swipe.

Step 2: If you haven't already done so, you will need to create a PIN. This PIN needs to be at least 4 digits. If you need to reset your PIN, click here.

Step 2a: After creating the pin, you will be asked to enter the pin a second time to verify your pin.

Step 3:  Click on the [Print Release] Button.

Step 4:  Select the job you want to release by pressing the arrow next to that print job.

Step 5:  You will see a screen that will allow you to [PRINT] your file or cancel this print job [CANCEL JOB].   Press the appropriate button.

Note:

  • Two of the printers in the main library, the first floor study space and the lower level study space, do not provide users with the ability to select the jobs they want to print. Swiping your Hofstra card on these printers automatically releases all of your print jobs.
  • Once you send your job to the PridePrint queue, you can release it on any of the PridePrint release stations for up to 12 hours.
  • Once the print job has been printed or canceled, it will no longer be available to be printed.

Print Credits Distribution:

Students registered for the fall semester are provided with 120.00 free print credits for the full academic year. Unused print credits expire at the end of the academic year, mid to late summer depending on your major. See the 2012/2013 credit refresh schedule below. Students will be charged no more than .10 print credits per page at the black and white printers and no more than 1.00 print credits per page at color printers on campus. To encourage conservation of resources, the university offers double-sided printing at no additional cost.

On the dates provided below, all free credits and credits purchased during the 2011/2012 academic year will be cleared. In addition, on these dates, students registered for the fall 2012 semester will receive 120.00 free print credits for the 2012/2013 academic year.

        School of Medicine Students - Tuesday, July 24th, 2012
        Law School Students - Friday, August 10, 2012

Note:

  • Students who start their academic year at the beginning of the spring semester will receive 80.00 print credits for the remaining academic year.
  • Students who start their academic year at the beginning of one of the summer sessions will receive 40.00 print credits for the remaining academic year.

Adding Print Credits:

Running out of print credits? Purchase additional print credits at Student Accounts, Room 206 Memorial Hall. All print credits are good through the end of the academic year.

How to Request a Refund:

Step 1: Click on the [Details...] link in the bottom right hand corner of the client window or go to http://prideprint.hofstra.edu:9191

Step 2: Using your Hofstra Portal username and password, log in to the PridePrint website.

Step 3: Find the "Recent Print Jobs" link in the left hand column and click it.

Step 4: Locate the print job you are trying to have refunded and click the [request refund] link in the "Status" column, which is the column furthest to the right.

Step 5: Complete the Refund Request form and click the "Send" button.

Note: Once you have requested a refund, it is submitted to a Hofstra University administrator who will, based on the reason, either confirm or deny a refund. Refunds will only be issued if there was a non-user error with the print job. If you do not fill out a reason for your refund request, provide the appropriate amount, or when using Hammer lab or Calkins lab notify a lab employee of the problem you're having, you will be denied a refund.

We do not reimburse print credits for:

  • Printing to undesired printers.
  • Printing more pages/copies than needed.
  • Printing portrait when landscape is desired or vice versa.
  • Not printing the desired amount of slides per page.
  • Blank pages in your document.
  • Printing single-sided when you meant double-sided or vice versa.
  • Printing documents that you do not have rights to print. (ex. eBooks, Google books webpages, protected content webpages)
  • Printing poor quality images.

We do reimburse print credits for:

  • Faded printouts.
  • Jammed printouts.
  • Streaky printouts.
  • Printouts that smear.
  • Color printouts that are missing a color.

Resetting Your PIN:

Step 1: Click on the [Details...] link in the bottom right hand corner of the client window or go to http://prideprint.hofstra.edu:9191

Step 2: When prompted to login enter your Hofstra Portal credentials and click the "Log in" button.

Step 3: Once in the web interface, select [Change Details], located in the menu on the left sidebar.

Step 4: This is where you set or change your PIN. Please be aware that your PIN number has to be at least 4 digits.

FAQ:

Q:   Do I have to keep the PridePrint client open to print?

A:   Yes, PridePrint client must be open but it can be minimized to your task bar or your dock.


Q:   Can I print in color?

A:   At this time there are color PridePrint Release Stations available in Calkins Lab and Hammer Lab. In addition there are color printers in the School of Medicine and the Law School which are available to students attending these schools.

Q:   This service just doesn’t work. What can I do?

A:   If you encounter a problem while releasing your print job, please follow the instructions provided on the release station to call or text us with a description of the problem. If you prefer, you can e-mail SCS@Hofstra.edu with your name, location, and a description of the problem (please include any error message you received.) We will address the problem as quickly as possible and notify you once the printer is working again. If you are having a problem using PridePrint on your computer, please stop by the Technical Support Center (125B Axinn Library - in Hammer Lab) between 8AM and midnight with the computer having the problem so that we can troubleshoot further.

Known Issues:

All Operating Systems:

1.   When you go to print your document, your computer freezes at a “processing” or “printing” screen.

Cause 1:   This can happen if you do not have the PridePrint client open. Please launch the client by clicking on its icon in the Start Menu or in your Apps folder if you are using a Mac.


Mac Specific:

1.   No Mac specific errors have been reported


Windows:

1.   The printer is listed as being offline.

Cause 1:   You must be connected to Hofstra's wired network or the "HU PREFERRED" wireless network to use this service. You cannot currently use this service from off campus or on the "HU Guest" wireless network.

2.   You go to print and nothing seems to happen (no errors)

Cause 1:   The client is not installed or not running. Double check that the PridePrint client is installed and running.

Cause 2:   You must be connected to Hofstra's wired network or the "HU PREFERRED" wireless network to use this service. You cannot currently use this service from off campus or on the "HU Guest" wireless network.
