The hardworking staff of the Telecommunications Department is proud to provide reliable voice, video and data service to the Hofstra University community. Each day, we are working hard to ensure that our distinguished faculty, diverse students and administrators have the necessary tools to educate or learn.
A NORTEL SL-100 PBX powers the Hofstra University telephone network with a 20,000 telephone line capacity. The University currently has over 6,000 active voice lines. We offer the faculty, staff and administration a choice of telephone options. With four digital models available, the Telecommunications staff can help your department decide which telephone will meet your specific needs. Each residence hall room is equipped with an analog phone line and telephone.
The University also provides an individual voicemail box to every student, faculty and staff member. The voicemail system is a Avaya/Octel Aria 350. The Telecommunications department is also responsible for maintaining the miles of underground copper, broadband and fiber optic cable as well as individual station cables on campus. We also provide a wide range of television channels for our residence halls. With our telephone service provider PaeTec Communications (featuring CampusLink Services), we provide individual student billing as well as billing services for the faculty, staff and administration.
