Former teacher and assistant principal in the Levittown and Valley Stream School Districts. Former middle school football, basketball, softball and baseball coach, and former high school basketball coach. Former assistant for Hofstra Men’s Basketball. Adjunct faculty, St. John’s University and Farmingdale State University. Sixteen years summer camp experience; 13 years experience at Hofstra Summer Camps.
Frances Bruscino, Associate Director
B.A., Hofstra University; director of office operations, maintaining appropriate camp standards; associate visitor for the American Camp Association; professional development certification, Hofstra University; licensed New York state real estate salesperson. Twenty-three years experience at Hofstra Summer Camps.
Eileen Turner, Camp Health DirectorRN, BSN, Molloy College. Twenty years hospital-based experience. Registered nurse, South Nassau Communities Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, and Winthrop Home Health Agency. Director of the Nassau County Influenza Prevention Program. School nurse at North Bellmore School District. Eight years experience at Hofstra Summer Camps.
Julie Duenges, Director of REACH / Pupil ServicesJulie Duenges is a board-certified behavior analyst with more than 10 years of experience in designing and implementing educational and recreational programs for students with autism and other disabilities. In 2007, Julie created, and continues to supervise, the REACH Program for Hofstra Summer Camps. She received a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an advanced degree in teaching students with autism from Brooklyn College. She is currently a special education teacher in the Herricks School District’s STRIVE program, designed specifically for educating children with autism spectrum disorders. Julie has served as senior ABA therapist and family trainer for Variety Child Learning Center in Syosset, recreational director for United Cerebral Palsy in Staten Island, and dance instructor for Camp ANCHOR of Lido Beach. She has seven years experience at Hofstra Summer Camps.
Joanna Perrella, Associate Director of REACH / Pupil ServicesJoanna Perrella holds a B.S. in health education and biology and an M.S.Ed. from Hofstra University. She is a special education teacher at Centereach high school in the Middle Country School District, and has experience teaching biology, anatomy and physiology, and environmental science to students with disabilities. Currently she is the associate director of pupil services for Hofstra’s REACH program for students with autism and other disabilities. Joanna Perrella has six years of experience with Hofstra Summer Camps.

Jeremy Melnick, Recreation Director / Co-Director of Reach for TeensB.A., child psychology, University of Rhode Island; L.M.S.W., child clinical social work, Fordham University. Certified in child and family counseling from Fordham University; Certification in school administration SBL/SDL, Stony Brook University. Certified teacher of NYS SAVE Program (Safe Schools Against Violence Education). Certified instructor of the CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program; former director of the Sid Jacobson JCC special services programs and director of Camp Kehilla (a camp for children and teens with special needs). Currently a school social worker in the Smithtown Central School District. Fourteen years experience at Hofstra Summer Camps.
Danna Steppe, Swim DirectorBA Elementary Education, CW Post LIU, MS Physical Education, Hofstra University. Certified Physical Education, Brooklyn Preparatory High School (NYC). Athletic Director for Harry Van Arsdale Campus, as well as coach for Co-Ed Double Dutch Team. WSI-certified, CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. Over 20 years of camp staff experience and 3 years with Hofstra Summer Camp.
