Undergraduate Programs and Courses

Bachelor of Arts

  • Major in English
    Students who choose the English and American Literature concentration take a wide variety of courses in literature, organized around issues, authors, genres, or historical periods. Students who choose the Creative Writing and Literature concentration divide their course work between literature courses and workshops in writing prose, poetry, drama, essays, screenplays, and children's literature. Students who choose the Publishing Studies concentration divide their course work between literature courses and courses in which they study the history and practice of publishing and the skills and techniques that are essential in the publishing industry. Students in all concentrations can easily finish major requirements within four years. Publishing Studies students are encouraged to take ENGL 170 and 171 in their sophomore year, ENGL 172 and 173 in their sophomore or junior year, and ENGL 174 and 179A in their junior or senior year. Minor

  • Creative Writing
    A Minor in Creative Writing consists of the successful completion of 18 semester hours, under advisement, with at least 6 hours in residence.
  • English
    A Minor in English consists of the successful completion of 18 semester hours, under advisement, with at least 6 hours in residence.
  • Publishing Studies
    A Minor in Publishing Studies consists of the successful completion of 18 semester hours, under advisement, with at least 6 hours in residence.
