Phi Alpha Theta
Phi Alpha Theta is a national honor society for exceptional university history students. Each spring the history faculty inducts new members into this prestigious society. Induction ceremonies are held each Spring. The date and time of the next ceremony will be announced. The History Society
Members of the History Society take trips into New York City and, with fellow club members, explore historical sites and participate in many fascinating history-related events. The activities may include some of the following: visiting museums and historical exhibits, viewing independent films, attending lectures, visiting history graduate programs at local major universities, visiting historical sites such as the homes of abolitionists, suffragettes, industrialists, and presidents, and much more. Members also explore historical sites on Long Island.
The responsibilities of History Society members include planning trips and sponsoring on-campus history-related events as well as attending lectures and exhibits sponsored by other departments and organizations. We would also like to make contact with history clubs at other universities and endeavor to plan some activities together.
Benefits of membership in the History Society include: fun and friendship, immersion in relevant historical debates and conversation, developing relationships with professors, and acquiring important history-related experience that looks great on graduate school applications.
