B.A. in Music GOAL:
1) Students develop a background in music and musicianship that prepares them for a wide range of further educational and vocational activities that include music as a component.
 
  OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will gain skills in and understanding of analysis and composition of music in the style of the Common-Practice Period (1600-1900).
MUS 69, 70A, 71, & 72
  2. Students will gain musicianship skills in both aural perception and sight singing relative to music in the style of the Common-Practice Period (1600-1900). MUS 61, 62, 63, & 64
  3. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of historical musical styles, compositional techniques, and performance practices of various style periods. MUS 48, 143, & 144
  4. Students will gain skills in basic keyboard techniques. MUS 35 and 35A
  5. Students will gain skills and learn representative repertoire in a specific musical performance medium. MUS 1P-19P or 22P

B.S. in Music:
Performance
GOAL:
1) Students develop a background in music and musicianship that prepares them for a wide range of further educational and vocational activities that include music as a component.

2) Students develop skills that prepare them for careers in musical performance and private teaching of performance, and advanced study and independent practice.

GOAL:

2) Students develop skills in and an understanding of both music and business, preparing them for professional careers in publishing, recording, sales, management, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, and many other fields that make up the music business.

Jazz and Commercial Music
GOAL:
1) Students develop a background in music and musicianship that prepares them for a wide range of further educational and vocational activities that include music as a component.

2) Students develop performance and compositional skills that prepare them for professional careers as performers and teachers of jazz and commercial music.

2) Students develop musical and pedagogical skills that prepare them for professional careers as music teachers in public, private, and parochial schools on the primary and secondary levels, and are certified as music specialists in the State of New York.
