Organizations & Affiliations
The Department of Political Science sponsors two student organizations related to Political Science/International Affairs. Both of these organizations have departmental faculty advisors.
Political Affairs Club
The aim of this organization is to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of politics. This organization is made up of Hofstra students who have a special interest in American and International politics. The Political Affairs Club sponsors guest speakers and other activities related to contemporary politics. The advisor to the Political Affairs Club is Dr. Carolyn Dudek
Pi Sigma Alpha
Pi Sigma Alpha was founded at the University of Texas as a national honor society in 1920, fulfilling a long-standing need of political science students and faculty members for an organization that would bring persons interested in the study of government and politics into closer association with each other for their mutual benefit.
Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, representing the field of Political Science within the Association. Members of Pi Sigma Alpha can be found in the highest ranks of American government, including presidents, senators, representatives, and Supreme Court justices. Members of Pi Sigma Alpha can also be found in state and local government, academia, the legal profession, journalism, and business.
Hofstra's Political Science Department houses the Eta Pi chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha. Seniors and juniors with outstanding academic records, and who show promise in the field of political science, are selected in the spring semester for initiation into the society. Interested students should contact the Department Advisor, Dr. Leslie Feldman.
