Mission Statement

The Department of Romance Languages & Literatures is dedicated to the transmission, preservation, analysis, and interpretation of knowledge in scholarship and creative works related to the languages, literatures, and cultures of those peoples whose principal mode of expression is a romance language, specifically French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. The Department prepares students for the baccalaureate in French, Italian, and Spanish; for teacher certification in French, Italian, and Spanish; for undergraduate minors in French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. A Masters of Arts in Spanish is also offered by the Department.
