Internships
Message from the Chair
The Sociology department has an internship course -- SOC 132 Independent Fieldwork and Research Internship -- that is available in the fall or spring semesters.
Fieldwork and internships are designed to enhance students' practical exposure to and understanding of applied sociological analysis. So the internship experience is generally reserved for advanced majors and minors in Sociology. It is common for SOC 180 (Statistics) and SOC 181 (Research Methods) to be completed in order to be eligible for an internship. The combination of practical experience in a sociologically relevant setting with an academically oriented program of study under the supervision of a member of the department’s faculty can offer a valuable learning opportunity. Students interested in an internship should make an appointment to discuss the possibilities with the Department Chair.
