The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures offers students broad and focused instruction in writing, critical thinking, and research, as well as an understanding and appreciation for cultures outside the U.S. These skills are valuable not only for careers in education, but also for work in a wide range of businesses, government and not-for-profit jobs. Our graduates have gone on to positions in public and private schools; in federal and state government; in advertising, publishing, and law; and in freelance work. Many have earned graduate degrees in French, Italian, Spanish, Linguistics, Education, and degrees in Law or an MBA.
To help prepare students for these many roles, the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures supports numerous activities. Those interested in graduate study may choose to write an Honors research essay. The Department sponsors events in which professionals and graduates discuss career opportunities and network with students. We also encourage students to find internships with organizations or business that offer opportunities of interest to them.
