Advanced Certificate Programs

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (Advanced Certificate)
    • This 15-semester hour program is designed for individuals who would like training in the area of applied behavior analysis or are interested in behavioral disorder counseling. This program also fulfills the education requirement for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • Early Childhood Special Education (Birth – Grade 2) (Advanced Certificate)
    • This program  is designed for teachers holding New York state certification at the early childhood developmental level (Birth -2nd grade) or New York state special education certification at the childhood developmental level (Grades 1-6). This graduate advanced certificate leads to the New York state professional certification in special education at the early childhood level.
  • Gifted Education (Advanced Certificate)
    • The advanced certificate program for teaching students of high ability/talents is designed for teachers who hold New York State teacher certification or for students completing an education master’s program who seek a concentration in gifted education.
    • This program leads to the New York extension for gifted education for classroom teaching certificates. Special education teachers wishing to teach students with gifts and talents at the preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle or secondary levels may find this advanced certificate necessary. All courses are offered exclusively online.
  • Interdisciplinary Transition Specialist (Advanced Certificate)
    • The Advanced Certificate for the Interdisciplinary Transition Specialist is designed for professionals who work with students with disabilities preparing to make the transition to adult life-roles following high school. The CRSR Department has developed this program for those in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and/or secondary school special education teachers, rehabilitation counseling, school counseling, and related fields to learn collaboratively across disciplines and develop competencies in transition best practices.
  • Special Education (P.D.)
    • This professional diploma is for students who would like  advanced training in the special education field beyond the master’s degree. The course of study seeks to strengthen the student’s grasp of the relationship between the development of programs for exceptional individuals and historical and philosophical issues in general education; broaden the student’s familiarity with educational and social services to exceptional children and adults; and deepen the student’s understanding of research needs, trends and issues in the field of special education.
  • Special Education Assessment and Diagnosis (Advanced Certificate)
    • This program prepares professional personnel to serve as educational evaluators responsible for identifying students in need of special educational services. This program is intended to meet the extended professional needs of teachers certified in elementary, middle and/or secondary education, reading and special education preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and/or secondary school. This sequence can be used within an M.A. in Special Education or as a post-master’s program.
  • Teaching Students With Severe or Multiple Disabilities (Advanced Certificate)
    • This Advanced Certificate  is designed for teachers who are certified in special education who wish additional pedagogical knowledge, skills, and experiences for Teaching Students with Severe or Multiple Disabilities in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and secondary school. This program leads to the New York State Annotation for Teaching Students With Severe or Multiple Disabilities (students may select from one of the two programs listed below).
