Secondary Programs

  • Secondary Special Education (Grades 7 - 12) - Inclusive Secondary  (M.S. Ed.)
    • Designed for students with no formal course work or teaching experience in secondary education or special education at the adolescent development level, this dual graduate pre-service program leads toward the New York state initial certificate to teach adolescent education, grades 7-12 in social studies, mathematics, sciences, English or foreign languages, students with disabilities 7-12 generalist, and extensions in the content areas.
  • Secondary Special Education (Grades 7 – 12) - Secondary Special Education Generalist (M.S. Ed.)
    • The Secondary Special Education Generalist program is designed for individuals who wish to teach students with disabilities on the secondary level in a variety of settings including self-contained classrooms, resource rooms, or in inclusive programs as a consultant teacher or integrated co-teacher. On successful completion of the program, individuals will be recommended for New York state certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities, 7-12, Generalist.
  • Secondary Special Education (Grades 7 – 12) Students With Disabilities Generalist With Extensions in Secondary Education (M.S. Ed.)
    • The Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist with Extensions in Secondary Education program is designed for individuals who wish to teach students with disabilities on the secondary level in a variety of settings including subject-specific special education classes (mathematics, sciences, social studies, English, or languages other than English), in resource rooms or in supportive roles in inclusive programs as a consultant teacher or integrated co-teacher. The content extension does not permit these individuals to perform as the teacher of record for grades 7-12 secondary education general education subject area classrooms.
    • Upon successful completion of the program, individuals will be recommended for New York state initial certification, Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist with appropriate content extensions.
  • Special Education (M.A.)
    • This program is designed to provide students who enter holding an initial certificate in special education with advanced training in issues and problems of inclusion, transition, and other aspects of PreK-12 education.
    • This program prepares reflective practitioners who are able to translate experience and research literature alike into workable solutions to problems in the public schools.
  • Special Education (P.D.)
    • This professional diploma is for students who would like  advanced training in the special education field beyond the master’s degree. The course of study seeks to strengthen the student’s grasp of the relationship between the development of programs for exceptional individuals and historical and philosophical issues in general education; broaden the student’s familiarity with educational and social services to exceptional children and adults; and deepen the student’s understanding of research needs, trends and issues in the field of special education.
